Proper Candle Care

rituals for enhancing the glow

TRIMMING

untrimmed wicks form excess carbon.
this carbon buildup causes flames to
grow bigger at higher temps,
which tend to soot heavily.

some “mushrooming” is normal with cotton wicks,
so be sure to trim with EVERY burn.

this aids in preventing uneven burning and ultimately
will result in a longer
and cleaner (soot- free) burn.

  • before lighting any candle, it is essential to trim the wick to at least ¼ inch.

  • love your candle by keeping it clean. remove any fallen debris from your candle’s surface to encourage a cleaner burn.

PLACEMENT

  • always remember to place your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface and away from flammable objects, and curious pets or children.

  • never leave a burning candle unattended.

  • avoid placing near sinks. water and wax do not mix!

  • avoid placing in drafty or high traffic areas.

dancing flames can shorten a candle’s life and uncontrollable flames can result in candle ignition.

glass container candles: remember bigger flames burning at hotter temps could easily compromise/ shatter vessels, and ignite.

BURN TIME

excessive burn time can lead to a
bigger, hotter, and uncontrolled flame.
overheated vessels could result in ignition.

aside from these dangers, longer burns can diminish the overall quality of a candle.
the hotter your candle burns will directly affect
how the fragrance oil in the wax is burned off.
excessive burning might produce a “fuel-like” smell.

  • allow wax to completely melt across its surface before extinguishing. (2-4 hours)

  • a full melt pool is usually achievable after its second burn.

  • never exceed 4 hours when burning ANY candle.

DISCARD/ REPURPOSE

extinguish the final flame.
let candle cool completely.

remove remaining wax by freezing overnight.
thoroughly clean vessel with a paper towel and
some rubbing alcohol.

recycle or repurpose container for trinkets, jewelry, etc.
or return vessel for future
candle testing!
(clean or not, i’ll take them off your hands)

  • never attempt to burn all the wax from a vessel.

  • a candle’s final burn is complete when the wax surface reaches 1/2” from the base of the candle vessel.
